82 Division Nigerian Army Concludes 2025 Inter-Brigade Corporal Below Competition; 13 Brigade Emerges Winner
The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, has successfully concluded the 2025 Inter-Brigade Corporal Below Competition, with the 13 Brigade emerging as the overall winner. The competition showcased significant improvement in leadership abilities and team spirit among non-commissioned officers (NCOs).
The event was formally closed on Friday by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, who was represented by the Commander of 54 Signal Brigade, Brigadier General Solomon Julius. The closing ceremony was held at the Headquarters of 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, Ohafia, Abia State, after five days of intense activities.
Maj. Gen. Olatoye described the competition as a key component of the Nigerian Army’s annual training calendar, designed to challenge the initiative of junior soldiers and prepare them for higher responsibilities. He noted that the exercise not only enhanced the physical and mental well-being of participants but also provided a platform for them to demonstrate leadership potential, organizational skills, and esprit de corps.
He emphasized the importance of the competition, urging all participants to remain professional, focused, and committed in their service to the nation. He encouraged them to embrace the values of bravery and courage, essential for effective leadership.
According to Olatoye, the competition aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, which aims to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties within a joint, multi-agency environment.
He also commended the competition’s umpires for their fairness and objectivity, which allowed participants to truly showcase their capabilities.
In his remarks, the Commander of 14 Brigade, Brigadier General Hassan Bello, stated that the competition involved rigorous physical training, regimentation, weapon handling, tactical maneuvers, discipline, and drill activities. Events included drill combat, swimming, map reading, combat run, and obstacle crossing.
The competition featured five formations within the Division:
13 Brigade, Calabar
14 Brigade, Ohafia
34 Artillery Brigade, Owerri
44 Engineer Brigade, Enugu
82 Division Garrison, Enugu
Brig. Gen. Bello, who also serves as the Sector Commander of the 3 Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, confirmed that all venues for the events were adequately prepared to meet required standards.
The final results of the competition were as follows:
1st Place: 13 Brigade – 68.60 points
2nd Place: 14 Brigade – 68.00 points
3rd Place: 82 Division Garrison – 67.80 points
4th Place: 34 Artillery Brigade – 65.80 points
5th Place: 44 Engineer Brigade – 65.80 points
Individual event results were announced by the Chief Judge, Lt. Col. A.S. Olorunfemi.
The closing ceremony was marked by impressive drill displays and other performances that reflected the discipline and commitment of the participants.
