The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education, Ofeme Ohuhu, Umuahia, has directed the Works and Procurement Departments to exercise strict oversight on all contractors to prevent substandard work and avert future building collapse.
The charge was given by the Head of Project Monitoring and Council Member, Federal College of Education Ofeme Ohuhu *Mallam Abdulahi Zakari*, during an inspection tour of ongoing TETFUND projects at the Institution.
Speaking to the *Director of Works, Prince Samuel Udoka*, and the *Head of Procurement, Mr. Chukwuneta Omegó*, Mallam Abdulahi stressed the need for close monitoring to ensure compliance with TETFUND specifications and the original project directives. *”You must constantly monitor the activities of these contractors to prevent them from taking shortcuts or delivering substandard jobs. Both the Council and Management are committed to leaving a lasting legacy. We are determined to build a world-class College of Education that will stand the test of time. We will give you every support, provided you do the right thing,” he said.*
Projects currently at various stages of completion include a *70-Room Female Hostel, Science Laboratory, Library, and Multimedia Laboratory*, among others.
The College, which is currently admitting first-year students for the *2026/2027 academic session,* reaffirmed its commitment to not only producing quality teachers, but also providing a *conducive and safe environment* for learning.
