A green economy is defined as low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive. In a green economy, growth in employment and income are driven by public and private investment into such economic activities, infrastructure and assets that allow reduced carbon emissions and pollution, enhanced energy and resource efficiency, and prevention of the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
As population grows fast, and set to double by 2050. Meeting energy generation need with cost-efficient, sustainable energy sources will be vital to socioeconomic development as well as to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement.
In walking the line between ensuring local growth and addressing the urgent challenge of climate change, the continent has an opportunity to capitalize on its rich renewable-energy resources—notably its wealth of wind, sunshine, and water. A “just transition” of this nature also opens significant prospects for investors.
Over the past decade the Federal Government of Nigeria has attracted over $2bn in investments in the renewable energy sector. Akwa Ibom State with untapped green energy sources from the coastline environment present a huge opportunity for sustainable renewable energy investment and this well position the State for huge inflow for green capital investments, as it will complement the favorable investment policies of the Governor Umo Eno led administration in the ease of doing business, policy reforms, taxation and regulations.

The notion of green economy does not replace sustainable development, but creates a new focus on the economy, investment, capital and infrastructure, employment and skills and positive social and environmental outcomes.
This progressive initiative place the Directorate of Diaspora Matters on the lead advocacy role in sustainable financial solutions that support long-term social and economic dustainability. This further justify an Akwa Ibom economy with an energy transition to a more climate resilient, lower carbon & sustainable, inclusive economy.
