Edo Sports Commission Boss Rallies Association Chairmen, Affirms Okpebholo’s “Catch Them Young” Initiative as Non-Negotiable
In a bid to strengthen collaboration between the Edo State Sports Commission and sports association chairmen, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, on Tuesday charged association leaders to prioritize Governor Okpebholo’s “Catch Them Young” initiative.
In a statement released by his Media Officer, Mr. Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele emphasized that the primary focus of the meeting was to ensure that all 32 associations are fully prepared to participate in the upcoming Ogun 2025 National Sports Festival. He requested updates on each association’s readiness and announced that a screening exercise involving chairmen, coaches, and secretaries would be conducted.
“Team Edo is not under pressure to win but must focus on long-term development,” Enabulele stated. He stressed the importance of a sustainable “Catch Them Young” plan beyond the festival, aligning with the vision of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
He assured the chairmen of the commission’s full backing from the state government, led by Senator Okpebholo and Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa. “I urge all chairmen to be steadfast in the administration of their associations. The commission is committed to transparency, accountability, and excellence,” Enabulele added.
During the meeting, many association chairmen shared their achievements and challenges. Mr. Andy Momodu, Chairman of the Golf Association, appreciated Enabulele and the board, stressing that sports must be driven by skill and merit rather than favoritism, to ensure inclusive progress in athlete development. He expressed confidence that their athletes would perform strongly at the festival.
