Eight Schools to be revived to standard by Ohuhu Development Union USA before the end of 2024
Ohuhu Development Union International USA, has concluded plans to embark on N48,000,000 million projects in all the eight (8) Secondary schools in Ohuhu clan in Umuahia North L.G.A, of Abia State.
The Union said that the projects which would be completed before the end of the year was based on needs assessment carried out in the respective schools.
Interacting with newsmen in Umuahia, the Executive President of Ohuhu Development Union International USA, Chief Dr. Maduabuchi Prince Gabriel, also expressed hope to galvanize and work together with the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha; Mayor of Umuahia North L.G.A, High Chief Victor Ikeji and member representing Umuahia North State Constituency, Hon. Anderson Akaliro to bring development to Ohuhu clan.
While appreciating the strides recorded by Governor Alex Otti in all the sectors of the State, he disclosed future plans of the Union to embark on Back To School Programme for the indigent children in Ohuhu and also acquire lands for the building of Diaspora village in Ohuhu clan, which will further develop the agrarian community.
He disclosed that Union would also work with the government to promote agriculture in the clan, through the revival of farm settlements in the area, encouraging mechanized agriculture, provision of improved farm seedlings and educating farmers on the Best Agricultural Practices, to cushion the effects of economic challenges.
Prince Gabriel who is also known as ‘Ihemba Ndi igbo’, reminded the people of Ohuhu that growth, development and progress does not thrive favourably in the midst of bitterness and political rivalry, hence the need to jettison all ills for the good of the clan.
On the Union’s efforts to promote the Ohuhu culture, the Ohuhu Development Union International USA Executive President said, “Last year precisely in May 2024, we had our international conference in Washington DC where we had our Eru dance and Ekpe cultural festival. Next year we are going to California for our preconference and in the next two years, I will organize our international conference. It is going to be a very big Ohuhu carnival in May, 2026 in New York City. We are going to bring in our Eru and Ekpe too. We will bring as many Ohuhu people as possible.
“We are also planning to do our local staples competition (Ohuhu food). We will do also our native fashion competition. People will see and cherish our rich cultural heritage”.
He said that the Union has been interfacing with Ohuhu traditional rulers and has also been connecting Ohuhu people living in the foreign lands to all the cultural practices.
“Without us connecting to our cultural practices, we will be sailing to extinction which is dangerous. Any people that are not connected to their culture is disconnected to destiny. We are teaching our children our culture. We are bringing our culture back to our children and they are imbibing it; and we are very ready to teach them more and we are going to work together to make sure that our culture is upheld even in the United States of America”, Ihie Mba Ndigbo further disclosed.
