Insecurity: Police Removal on the Highway Leaves Residents Vulnerable to Attack…. HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu

The Chairman Association Christian traditional rulers of Niger Delta, HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, has sounded the alarm over the withdrawal of security personnel from strategic locations along the Umuahia-Okigwe highway in Southeast Nigeria.

This move has exacerbated fears among local communities, already on edge due to alleged threats from Fulani herdsmen

According to HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, the removal of police personnel from the highway has created a security vacuum, leaving residents vulnerable to attacks. The traditional ruler urged the military and police to fulfill their duty to protect citizens’ lives and properties.

In a telephone interview with Thebridgenews, Ofoegbu emphasized that the insecurity situation in the region is dire, with Fulani herdsmen allegedly attacking Igbo women and youths in farmlands. He cited a recent incident where a trailer carrying hoodlums with arms was discovered at a military checkpoint in Umuahia.

The presence of over 50 thatched houses occupied by Fulani herdsmen in Ohuhu land has also sparked concerns among local residents, who are already reeling from the alleged threats of invasion by herdsmen. The situation has created a sense of unease, with many residents reporting sleepless nights.

HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu’s warning comes amid growing tensions in the region, highlighting the need for increased security measures to protect local communities, calling on the South East / South South governors to have a good romance with traditional rulers in their various state on the need to use the local traditional ways to secure the the boundaries.

The first class traditional ruler noted that as custodian of tradition, he has the native knowledge of safeguarding his community, pray for government to adopt the measure as he is open for other concern citizens who may want to borrow the ideas from him. Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu said.
