The Ofeme people on the 23rd February 2024 ended over 14 years of inept leadership by voting into office a new executive led by High Chief Raymond Ofoegbu (Onyiye Ohuhu).
It could be recalled that Ofeme people have clamoured for change of leadership even before the demise of their late President General High Chief Ndubuisi Kanu.
Since his demise every attempt to move forward meets with brick walls, as some persons who believed they owen Ofeme comes up with one divisive act or another to frustrate the attempt to conduct an election.
But like the Biblical saying “there is time for everything”, time came when the people said enough is enough, hence when the former President General Ohuhu Welfare Union World-Wide Barrister Johnson Kanu was appointed as the electoral committee chairman, hope was restored.
Bar. Johnson and his team defied all odds, intimidations, propaganda and insult to ensure that the election took place.
“Speaking during the Inuaguration of the new executive of OPUF, Barrister Johnson Kanu, said that Ofeme cannot leave in isolation or remain backward.”Ofeme need quality leadership, peace and unity which brings development. Ofeme cannot be dragged down, no single individual can hold her to Ransome, I call on anyone who might feel offended to sheath their sword and join the new executive to move Ofeme forward”. He said.
The new President General, High Chief Raymond Ofoegbu (Onyiye Ohuhu), said that his government will run an open door policy, “we are open to good ideas that will foster peace, progress and development”.
According to him his government will touch four key areas, the Health Sector, Skill Acquisition, Revival of the Markets and Security, “I am appealing to everyone including the aggrieved to forget and join hands with us to move Ofeme forward, if you truly love Ofeme, join hands with us, don’t cause problem or division that will throw Ofeme into crisis. I equally want to appeal to our brothers and sisters, home and in diaspora to assist us on our health centers which are in a bad shape, bad road, network and lack of government presence. We can only achieve greatness by being together and work together as a people” he maintain.
President General Ohuhu Welfare Union, World-Wide Elder Dr Okechukwu Uwazie, who graced the well attended inuaguration, says he was impressed by not only the turnout but the quality of personalities present. He expressed the desire of OWU World Wide to partner with the new executive council to move Ofeme forward.
“If the component parts that make Ohuhu prospers, it means that OWU World-Wide has done well. I heard your main area of focus, they are in line with our agenda, I therefore, have no doubt that Ofeme will be better in your hand”. He commended.
Patron of OPUF, Engr. Professor Emmanuel Onuoha, a Railway and Aviation Consultant, promised to support the Executives in anyway possible, stressing that he was impressed by the calibre of men that was elected. He gave three hundred thousand naira each to both OPUF and their Youth Wing.
HRH, Eze Iheanyi Anyaogu,(Eze Ndi Igbo) in the largest Local Government Area of Lagos state Kosofe, said that him and his friends will support the newly elected Executives of OPUF. He commended the electoral committee for doing a good job. He promised that he will empower a lot of youths through the union.
Speaking also, one of the dignitaries who came with Eze Anyaogu, Dr Ahmed Lawn, a retired Director in DSS and the current president of African Youth Sports Federation, promised to donate one gold trophy each to OPUF and their Youth Wing.
In his vote of thanks the Public Relations Officer, Hon Prince Obioma Oburuoga, while thanking God for a successful Inuaguration, appealed to HRH Eze Iheanyi Anyaogu, his friend Dr Ahmed Lawan and others to help Ofeme build a mini stadium that will help in the discovery of the abundant talents in the community.
