Mayor Ikeji Meets Private Health Practitioners in Umuahia, Frowns At Unnecessary Rejection of Emergency/Accident Victims
The Mayor of Umuahia North LGA, Hon. High-Chief Victor Ikeji (Kpakpando Gburugburu) today Tuesday 17th January, 2024 met with the owners of private healthcare facilities within the local government.
The Mayor during the meeting frowned at the unprofessional attitude of some of these healthcare providers towards emergency and gunshot victims.
Mayor Ikeji appealed to the healthcare providers in keeping with their professional oath of service to save lives, to admit and treat accident or emergency patients first before asking for money.
He said many accident victims have lost their lives due to this behavior of insisting on payment before commencing treatment.
The Umuahia North Council boss, also frowned at the rejection of gunshot victims by healthcare facilities. He said the police hierarchy has issued an order advising healthcare facilities to first treat victims and thereafter seek for police report.
He pointed out that, some of these patients are not necessarily criminals but victims of crime whose lives may be lost for failure of urgent medical attention.
The Mayor also hinted that the council will soon launch a digital platform for birth and death registration.
He pointed out that there is a need to have a database for birth and death within the council.
Mayor Ikeji stated that this will aid socioeconomic planning by the council, state, and the country at large. He called on the healthcare practitioners to partner with the council to give the people of Umuahia North an improved healthcare service delivery.
The healthcare practitioners thanked the Mayor for the meeting. They assured him of their support and cooperation to ensure better healthcare delivery in their various facilities .
