Ndi Eze Ohuhu To Celebrate 2025 New Yam Festival in Grand Style
The cultural landscape of Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia State, will on on Thursday, 4th September 2025, mark their annual New Yam Festival with pomp and pageantry with the fully parked event by Ndi Eze Ohuhu.
The colorful event, which will take place at Afugiri Primary School, Ohuhu, will be chaired by two distinguished sons of Ohuhu: Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, a respected statesman and community leader, and Chief Empire Kanu, the two Ikoro Ohuhu.
The festival, a time-honored tradition of thanksgiving for bountiful harvests, brings together traditional rulers, community leaders, cultural groups, women organizations, youths, and guests from across Abia State and beyond.
Highlights of the celebration will includes the ritual breaking of the yam by Ndi Eze Ohuhu, traditional dances, masquerade displays, and cultural performances that showcased the rich heritage of the Ohuhu people. The ceremony also will serve as a unifying platform for fostering peace, brotherhood, and development within the community.
In his remarks to this event, HRM Eze Ngwuli Chairman Ohuhu Council of traditional rulers and His Royal Eminence Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu the contact and mobilization Chairman praised the resilience and unity of the Ohuhu people, stressing the importance of cultural preservation as a means of identity and progress. HRK Eze Iheanacho Nwokenna, Eze Emekobum, HRM Eze Chijioke Chikwekeem the host community Chairman equally urged the people to uphold their values uniting for one goal, purpose and traditions while working together for socio-economic advancement.
The revered monarchs noted that 2025 New Yam Festival will reaffirm Ohuhu’s place as a community deeply rooted in its traditions, even as it embraces modernity and development.
