Nigerian Army Encourages Students to Explore Military Careers
The Commander of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army Headquarters, Ohafia, Brigadier-General H.M. Bello, has encouraged secondary school students to consider pursuing a career in the military.
Speaking during a sensitization programme held on Friday at Ngwa High School, Aba, Abia State, Brig.-Gen. Bello—represented by the Brigade’s Chief of Staff, Colonel Maxwell Maaji—highlighted the numerous opportunities and benefits available in the Nigerian Army.
The event, which formed part of the activities marking the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), was reported by The Bridge News.
In his address, Bello noted that the Nigerian Army, now 162 years old, has remained a beacon of professionalism and resilience in the face of national and global challenges. He reaffirmed the Army’s unwavering commitment to patriotism and national development.
He explained that NADCEL is observed annually to honour the sacrifices and contributions of Nigerian Army personnel in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.
Also speaking at the event, the Brigade’s Education Officer, Major Patrick Otubo, delivered a presentation focused on ethics and career prospects within the military. He urged the students to embrace values such as patriotism, honesty, and integrity while steering clear of cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices.
Otubo addressed concerns raised by some students about military life, explaining the criteria and processes involved in enlisting into the Nigerian Army.
Rev. Canon John Mammah, Principal of Ngwa High School, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for the initiative, noting that the engagement would have a lasting positive impact on the students.
A student of St. James Model Secondary School, Aba, shared her excitement about the event, stating that it had sparked her interest in joining the military.
The programme attracted students from various schools across Abia State and featured an interactive session, cultural performances, and other side attractions.
