EDUCATION REMAINS THE GREATEST INVESTMENT TO OUR FUTURE – ONYINYE OHUHU
It takes courage and visionary leadership to invest in education. That commitment was clearly demonstrated by the member representing the good people of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency Rt Hon Obi Aguocha of the Senate with the launch of his ₦100 million scholarship scheme for students across the Federal Constituency.
The initiative underscores the National Assembly member’s determination to empower the next generation and complements the education-driven vision of the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr Alex Chioma Otti
Despite limited resources, the governor has continued to prioritize human capital development by sponsoring over 1,000 Abia youths for postgraduate studies, including master’s and PhD programmes, both within Nigeria and abroad.
These investments reaffirm the timeless truth that no society can achieve sustainable development without quality education.
Rt Hon Obi Aguocha’s scholarship programme will significantly reduce the financial burden on students while helping to dispel outdated stereotypes about Abia people as an educationally disadvantaged state.
My passion for education inspired the Zero Tolerance for Illiteracy initiative, which led to me given scholarship for the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE)-awarding institution. Which through this initiative, more than one hundred people including elderly women, former school dropouts, commercial motorcycle riders, tricycle operators, and other Nigerians can return to the classroom.
The objective has always been to break the cycle of illiteracy and create opportunities for personal and community development.
As I commend Rt Hon Aguocha for personally funding this laudable scholarship programme, I urge the beneficiaries to make the most of this rare opportunity.
The support is intended to ease the burden of tuition and other educational expenses, allowing students to focus on their academic pursuits and build a brighter future.
I also encourage our young people to shun distractions, including social media abuse, political manipulation, and activities that undermine the image of responsible leadership.
Instead, they should remain focused on their education, pray for their leaders, and serve as worthy ambassadors of Abia State through discipline, excellence, and integrity.
I sincerely appreciate Rt Hon Obi Aguocha for placing education at the heart of his constituency service and for complementing Governor Otti’s unwavering commitment to giving hope and opportunities to the youth through education.
