INTEGRITY OF UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION PROCESSES MUST NEVER BE COMPROMISED, MOUAU VC DECLARES

The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has declared that the integrity of university examination processes must never be compromised, stressing that examinations are a test of institutional credibility.
Prof. Akanwa made the statement on Monday, while declaring open a two day workshop on the retraining of university staff in Examination Ethics and University Culture at MOUAU.
She stressed that examination malpractice, negligence, leakage of examination materials, unauthorised assistance and falsification of records could undermine public confidence in university certificates and damage the reputation of institutions.
According to the Vice Chancellor, safeguarding examination integrity is a collective responsibility involving examiners, invigilators, course coordinators, administrators and other staff members.
She explained that the workshop forms part of the university’s institutional renewal agenda aimed at promoting excellence, discipline, professionalism and accountability.
Prof. Akanwa expressed confidence that the workshop would strengthen ethical standards, improve examination practices and reinforce MOUAU’s reputation as a university committed to integrity and excellence.
Resource persons who facilitated the various sessions of the workshop included Dr. Saliu Noel Biodun of the National Universities Commission (NUC); Prof. Chinedum Uzoma Nwajiuba, a Professor of Agricultural Economics at MOUAU and former Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (FUNAI); and Prof. B. E. B. Nwoke, a Professor of Public Health Parasitology and Entomology at Imo State University, Owerri.
Others were Prof. Damian O. Asawalam, a Professor of Soil Science at MOUAU; Prof. Osorochi P. Obi, Director, MOUAU Career Services Centre and Professor of Guidance and Counselling; Prof. Bethrand N. Nwankwojike, Dean, College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, MOUAU; and Dr. Peter Chikwendu Nwaoma, a former Acting Registrar and former Director, Human Resources Management of MOUAU.
