ADVOCACY VISIT TO THE METHODIST BISHOP OF UMUAHIA EAST DIOCESE RT REV. DR IKECHUKWU EMEZI NKULO:
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu ably represented by the Director Public Enlightenment and Mass Mobilization Mrs Theresa Maduekwe with the State Director National Orientation Agency Abia State Mrs Regina Iroha and management team of the State Directorate paid an advocacy visit to the Methodist Bishop Diocese of Umuahia East.
The Director General at the occasion called on religious leaders to join hands with National Orientation Agency in the on-going campaign towards propagating the National Values Charter, he charged the Clergies to use the pulpit to preach to their members about the seven promises and the seven core responsibilities. The DG said when the Clergies speak, the masses will obey and join in the campaign, stressing that the nation needs something that will bind the people together.
In her speech, the State Director Mrs Regina Iroha said the church has a critical role to play in the current National value re-orientation campaign aimed at promoting good governance and good people. She opined that these values will entrench commitment that will move the country forward when we apply all these beliefs and aspirations Nigeria will be great again.
Mrs Iroha restated that the economic situation does not at all time determine the level of development of a nation rather the values and aspirations of the people. She called for partnership between NOA and the Church to instill positive value system and new identity.
Responding, the Methodist Bishop of the Diocese of Umuahia East His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Ikeccukwu Emezi Nkulo said accountability remains the required instrument for the attainment of good citizenship, stating that the values in the ten commandments are encompassing if only we adhere to them the seven for seven would be achieved with ease.
Rev Nkulo reechoed that the ten commandments are the fundamental laws that governed mankind and frowned that the government will come up with policies that are good for the people but such policies will never see the light of the day at the implementation level.
He attributed most of the challenges facing the country to conflicting variables that have made it impossible for the nation to have honest peoples, he called for peace and tolerance among the citizens and charged leaders to formulate laws that would have positive impact on the citizens. He pledged the willingness of the church to partner with NOA to pass the message to members of the congregations as part of their commitment to build a better society.
