…As LG Commissioner Harps on total commitment to Agriculture development
Akwa Ibom State Government has distributed cassava stems to 12 LGAs across the State in what is expected to be the continuous drive towards food sufficiency and agriculture revolution in the state.
Speaking at the distribution of the stems, Friday 17 May, the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong urged the benefiting Local Government Areas to be more committed to the Governor’s vision and investment in Agriculture. He also stressed on the need for the council chairmen to also invest personally in agriculture as a way of support to the state governor’s vision for the people and the state.
Archibong noted that if the Agriculture revolution as captured in the ARISE Agenda and promoted by the state government is implemented, the state will become a home for agriculture produce.
The State’s Agriculture Commissioner, Dr Offiong Offor who supervised the distribution alongside the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Commissioner said that her Ministry is opened for all, appealing to them to visit for technical support while advising all farmers including the corporate farmers to take advantage of the Governor’s two fridays in a month work free days to cultivate their farms.
Varieties of stems distributed were “4-19, give-me-chance and Obasanjo” respectively, while the benefiting LGAs include Uyo, Udung Uko, Urue-Offong/Oruko, Ikono, Etinan,Mkpat Enin, Uruan, Ikot Ekpene, and Oruk Anam.
The exercise took place at Akwa Ibom Agriculture Development Program (AKADEP), Uyo.
