The member representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency, Hon. Pastor Ubong Attah has revealed that Akwa Ibom has the longest natural occurring palm oil belt in Africa and the world.
Pastor Ubong Attah made the revelation when he appeared on Arise Akwa Ibom on Passion 94.5 FM on Tuesday, October 17,2023 to speak in his capacity as the Chairman of House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture & Natural Resources and take questions from his constituents.
Mr Attah, a farmer and preacher of the gospel stated that funding and attitude of farmers have been the major challenge to agriculture in the state over the years, but he is happy that the administration of Pastor Umo Eno as governor of Akwa Ibom state has placed priority on Agriculture, to salvage the state from the current economic realities.
Speaking further, he called on Akwa Ibom youths to venture into Agripreneurship as a way out of unemployment.
“Theres a value chain in agriculture and our youths must key into it. It is only in the South that we don’t take farming seriously, unlike in the North, it will interest you to know that Akwa Ibom has the longest natural occurring palm oil belt and we must take advantage of it” he said.
The lawmaker while speaking on the Tuesday edition of the program, announced that government has put in place a scheme for the enrollment of farmers who will receive support for their farms, this is following proper mapping.
And in his capacity, there will be a special training on Bee Farming for his constituents.
On legislation, which is his primary assignment in the 8th assembly, Mr Attah said he has moved 2 motions and he has 16 motions and 8 bills on queue. He assured Ibesikpo Asutan people of credible representation, effective lawmaking and unparalleled oversight functions.
