*Etinan council chairman, Uko Umoh begins cultivation of 1.5 hectare intercropping farm*
In line with the ARISE Agenda of the Akwa Ibom state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, the chairman of Etinan local government area, Hon. Uko Umoh has begun cultivation of 1.5 hectare council farm at the secretariat premises.
The chairman who flagged off the farming process on Wednesday March, 27, noted that his policies and programmes are geared toward replicating the ARISE Agenda components of Governor Umo Eno’s administration in Etinan local government.
Hon. Uko Umoh described farming as in-thing for both young and old in post-modern world, adding that he is poised to encouraging youths from the area make out a living through farming.
He noted that apart from selling the farm produce from the 1.5 hectare land to generate revenue for the council, it will also serve as a demonstration farm for people from different villages who may wish to acquire knowledge on modern farming skills.
“When I came into council, I made a tour of all the sectors to abreast myself with situations on ground and checked areas I can come in to add value.
“Last week we added value in the health sector through free medical and surgical outreach, and today we are in agricultural sector with the cultivation of 1.5 hectare farm land.
“We shall continue this way till we ensure all sectors are repositioned for effective workability.
“Let me particularly thank the Director of Agriculture and most especially my Vice Chairman, Hon. Imaobong Michael for their commitment in seeing to the actualization of this dream.” The chairman said.
Also speaking, Director of Agriculture, Etinan local government area, Elder Emmanuel Isong appreciated the council chairman for buying into the vision of making Etinan an agricultural hub in the state.
He noted that cassava, maize, vegetables including Okaro and cucumber among other things will be cultivated.
“Our intention is to sell the farm produce to buyers at a reduced rate to address the issue of food scarcity and security.
“We will also use the farm to train and retrain community members in order to acquaint them with modern skills of farming.
“When we harvest all what we are going to plant in that land, I can assure you the projected revenue will run into millions.” The director said.
Present at the launch were the Vice chairman, Hon. Imaobong Michael and other Transition Committee members.
