Gov Alex Otti’s Decision on Lokpanta Cattle Market Remains the best…. Eze Sir Innocent Nwaigwe
Umuahia North Council of traditional rulers led by their chairman HRM Eze Sir Innocent Adiele Nwaigwe has commended the national assembly members who paid Gov Alex Otti a visit on handling the insecurity flash point of the state.
Eze Nwaigwe described the false news making rounds that it has directed Northerners, who live and conduct their businesses at the Lokpanta Cattle Market, around the Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway by Umunneochi, to leave the state.
The traditional ruler said is never ideal for traders to sleep inside the market where business is meant to take place.
He advice the traders doing business at Lokpanta to find residential area to reside either in umunneochi or Umuahia the state capital, form a union to checkmate illicit acts by strangers who hide under the guide of doing business inside Lokpanta market.
He noted that market like Lokpanta should emulate others like Ariaria international market and Ubani market in Aba and Umuahia respectively which has time for businesses to commence and closure.
Eze Nwaigwe noted that the Lokpanta-Uturu axis of the state has been under siege by criminal elements in the last couple of years, prompting the major steps recently taken by the State Government to eliminate the spate of kidnappings and other criminal activities in the area.
He said preliminary investigation points to the Lokpanta Cattle Market as a major hide out for all kinds of individuals involved in different criminal activities, including kidnappings, armed robbery and other violent crimes.
Eze Innocent Nwaigwe who described Governor Alex Otti, OFR, as a detribalised Nigerian, having appointed non-Abians into his cabinet, noted that most of the cattle dealers in the state are second and third generations of Igbos, and therefore the Governor Otti-led government should be extol by the proactive directives taken to crush the criminals den.
The revered traditional ruler commends the government for it’s pragmatic way of not allowing the market continue as residential place, but a daily market. He maintained that government’s decision to make the Lokpanta Cattle Market a daily market is in the interest of the citizens and the cattle dealers.
