Governor Alex Otti Triumphs in KANO JUDGEMENT: Appeal Court Upholds Victory

Governor Alex Otti has achieved another legal victory, with the Appeal Court in Kano dismissing the judgment issued by Justice M.N. Yunusa of the Kano State Federal High Court on May 18th, which had purportedly removed Otti from office. The appeal court, in its ruling on Friday, criticized the hasty handling of the case by the trial court, particularly for not involving the necessary parties targeted by the claims in the suit. As a result, the appellate court ordered the plaintiff to pay one million naira (N1,000,000) in costs.

The original case (FHC/KN/CS/107/2023) was brought by Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim, who sought the disqualification of all elected Labour Party candidates in the 2023 general election. Ibrahim claimed that the nomination of Labour Party candidates did not comply with the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, rendering their participation in the 2023 general election in Kano State and other parts of Nigeria null and void.

Following Justice M. N. Yunusa’s judgment, Governor Alex Otti’s legal team, led by Lateef Fagbemi & Co. and Temitope Chambers, filed for a stay of execution and subsequently submitted a 10-point appeal. Stay tuned for further updates on this matter
