Industrialization Key to Abia’s Economic Recovery — Chief Henry Ikoh
Former Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Henry Ikoh, has declared that industrialization remains the most viable path to economic recovery and sustainable development in Abia State.
Chief Ikoh made this assertion over the weekend while addressing a delegation of Abia youths who paid him a visit at his country home in Ahuwa Oboro. The seasoned industrialist and businessman emphasized that Abia’s economic future depends largely on deliberate investments in industrial growth and the creation of an enabling environment for enterprise.
According to him, Abia State is richly endowed with a population known for creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship, particularly among its youth. He noted that the state’s young people are hardworking, entrepreneurial, and possess immense potential that can be harnessed through strategic industrial policies.
“Abia is renowned for its ingenuity and enterprising spirit. Our youths have what it takes to drive economic transformation, but the right structures must be put in place,” Ikoh stated.
He stressed that meaningful economic recovery can only be achieved when leadership prioritizes industrialization by channeling resources into infrastructure, innovation, and business-friendly policies. He further advocated for the establishment of industrial parks across the three senatorial zones of the state as a practical step toward achieving this goal.
Ikoh explained that such industrial hubs would not only stimulate production and attract investment but also create employment opportunities for thousands of youths. He added that increased job creation would significantly reduce crime rates while boosting internally generated revenue.
“Opening industrial parks in the three senatorial zones will create jobs, reduce crime, and lessen our dependence on federal allocations,” he said.
The former minister concluded by urging policymakers and stakeholders in Abia State to adopt a forward-thinking approach that prioritizes industrial development as the cornerstone of economic revival.
When asked if he is going to contest the 2027 governorship election? the APC chieftain said, he is still consulting with family, party and friends and at the right time he will make his intentions public.
The visit by the youth delegation, reflects a growing interest among young people in engaging leaders with experience and ideas on practical solutions to the state’s economic challenges.
