Jubilation as Prince Chidi Ogbulafor Joins APC in Umuahia South
There was excitement among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Umuahia South as they welcomed Prince Chidi Ogbulafor into the party. Ogbulafor, a former transition committee chairman in Umuahia South and a 2011 House of Representatives candidate, officially joined the ruling party at the Federal Level, APC.
Prince Chidi Ogbulafor is the younger brother of the late Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, a former national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. Speaking at his declaration, he cited the progress being made in the Southeast under the current administration as a key reason for his decision.
“I’m not a new person in APC. I’ve contested elections in APC, then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). I’m used to the broom. I’m not new to it. I’ve decided, since there’s progress being made in the Southeast, I want to be part of it,” Ogbulafor stated.
He commended the president for signing the bill establishing the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC), which he said demonstrated a commitment to addressing the region’s needs. He also lauded the financial allocations to state governments under the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), emphasizing that no previous administration had provided such financial support.
The defection ceremony, held in Ahia Ukwu Ward 1, was attended by APC stakeholders and party leaders at the local government level. Chairman of the ward, Okezie Onuoha, officially presented Ogbulafor to the party leaders, confirming that he had fulfilled all requirements for membership.
Expressing his excitement, Onuoha described the new entrant as a “big fish” whose presence would boost the party’s strength in the ward.
Similarly, the APC chairman in Umuahia South, John Uche Onyemachi, hailed the defection, calling it a major milestone for the party in the local government area.
“I’ve always been receiving invitations from the state on the declaration of newcomers in other LGAs, but none has happened in Umuahia South—until today,” Onyemachi said. “Like the Ward 1 chairman described him, we’ve gotten a ‘big fish, a big catch.’ He’s a prominent politician known throughout Abia State.”
The chairman of APC Stakeholders in Abia State, Engr. Chris Okpechi, officially handed Ogbulafor the party’s symbol—the broom—along with his membership card and an APC muffler, marking his formal integration into the party.
Chukwuemeka Onyeze, an ally of Prince Ogbulafor, also joined the APC and received his membership card.
In his closing remarks, Ogbulafor pledged to mobilize massive support for APC in his ward and beyond, promising to contribute to the party’s growth and development in the region.
