Afugiri Federated Unites in Thanksgiving For Bountiful Harvest

The three traditional rulers in Afugiri Federated Union led their subjects in thanksgiving to God on Saturday 21 October 2023 for a great harvest adding that they are joyful to God for preserving their sons and daughters home and abroad in the year 2023.

The occasion was chaired by Royal High Chief Nkwachi Moses Adiele, and Chief Ikechukwu Obioma the host as President general Afugiri Federated Union.
Cheif Obioma noted that the caliber of people who organized the 2023 new yam festival for Afugiri are endowed with wisdom and vision, according to him, ” the new yam festival holds great importance in many cultures particularly in Igbo land, it is an annual celebration that marks the yam harvest season, the festival serves as a way to celebrate the successful yam harvest which is a staple crop in many communities”. He said.

In his key note address, hon Kingsley Megwara expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life, noting that traditionally across the world igbos have embraced yam as the king of crops, he disclosed that this year’s yam festival will usher in great development to Afugiri ancient kingdom that will put smiles on the faces of their forefathers.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr Nkwachi Moses Adiele said, the new yam festival of this year will bring aggressive efforts to develop Afugiri community back to it’s pre civil war standards and better.
According to him, the development efforts has began with the remodeling of Afugiri central school and market square, adding that they shall continue with the steps and vision of the heroes like the late premier Dr Michael Okpara.

Villagers and settlers were not left behind as they gifted with yam and other valuables which reignited hope to many homes.
