*2027: Anosike’s 17-LGA Thank-You Tour Signals PDP Readiness*

The recently concluded statewide thank-you tour by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, was more than an appreciation visit. It became an early demonstration of the PDP’s grassroots strength, organisational capacity and determination to reclaim Government House in 2027.

Following his landslide victory at the PDP governorship primary, Anosike visited all 17 Local Government Areas, fulfilling the promise he made during his pre-primary consultations to return and thank party members if entrusted with the party’s ticket. By honouring that commitment and political promise, he demonstrated a rare political virtue— keeping your word and faith with those who supported him.

From Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Obingwa, Aba North, Aba South, Osisioma, Ugwunagbo, Ikwuano, Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Arochukwu, Ohafia and the remaining LGAs, the tour enabled him to reconnect with party leaders, stakeholders, ward executives, women, youths, former office holders and grassroots members, marking his transition from aspirant to governorship candidate and leader of a statewide campaign.

The enthusiastic receptions, solidarity chants and assurances of support confirmed that his candidacy has gained wide acceptance within the PDP. In Obingwa, one of the party’s traditional strongholds, members reaffirmed their commitment to delivering victory for all PDP candidates in 2027.

Although presented as a thank-you tour, the exercise effectively became the PDP’s first major post-primary mobilisation. It reactivated party structures across the 184 wards, strengthened unity, recaliberated all party machineries down to the polling units, identified areas requiring reconciliation and reminded members that the PDP remains the most organised political party in Abia.

The tour also challenged claims that the PDP collapsed after the 2023 election. With an estimated over 50,000 members participating across the 17 LGAs, the party demonstrated that its grassroots networks remain active and ready for full mobilisation ahead of 2027.

Beyond mobilisation, the tour introduced Anosike’s Welfarist Philosophy under the slogan “People First, Abia Always.” His message is simple: government must build infrastructure and build people simultaneously. Roads, schools and hospitals are important, but their value is diminished when citizens battle poverty, unemployment, poor healthcare and inadequate wages.

Deacon Kelechi Anosike proposed programmes include:

• Operation Feed Abia (OFA): Back-to-farm policy to ensure no Abian goes to bed hungry.

• Civil Service Care: Overhaul salary structure to N90,000 minimum wage, improved welfare, health insurance, and reinstatement of over 10,000 workers allegedly retired before their lawful retirement age. He says” As a welfarist, we play by the rules and dont owe anybody”.

• Pension reforms – review pension scale with prompt payment and improved welfare.

• Comprehensive Health Insurance and subsidised healthcare services for all Abians.

• Youth empowerment, digital skills, international employment opportunities and an International Football Academy.

• Agricultural expansion, rural roads for farmers, job creation, agro business and support for the informal sector.

Anosike maintained that governance should be measured not only by physical projects but by improvements in the daily lives of workers, pensioners, traders, farmers, artisans, youths and vulnerable families.

“Our government will build infrastructure and also build lives,” he repeatedly declared, insisting that development must have a human face.

During the tour, PDP leaders also criticised the administration of Governor Alex Otti, arguing that infrastructure alone cannot replace workers’ welfare, pensions, healthcare, youth development and social protection.

Another significant outcome was the growing unity within the PDP. The tour helped convert Anosike’s primary victory into wider acceptance across the party, encouraged reconciliation and renewed confidence. Over 15,000 former members and new entrants have reportedly indicated interest in joining the PDP, with plans underway for their formal reception.

Observers believe that Abia PDP has found new energy and enthusiasm in Kelechi Anosike, and the thank-you tour has signalled the PDP’s readiness for the 2027 general election. It demonstrated that the party retains strong grassroots structures, has embraced Anosike’s leadership and is preparing early for the governorship election.

For the PDP, the task ahead is clear: strengthen its structures in all 184 wards, reconcile aggrieved members, attract undecided voters, present credible policies and build an effective polling-unit campaign.

The message from the 17-LGA tour was unmistakable: the PDP party faithful believes that Reverend Kelechi Anosike is a compassionate and caring leader who will deliver Abians from hardship, starvation and poverty, and represents the platform’s strongest opportunity to rebuild, reorganise and return to power in 2027 under the banner of “People First, Abia Always.”
