A DAY OF RENEWED CONFIDENCE: FEDERAL CHARACTER COMMISSIONER VISITS ABIA STATE OFFICE, STRENGTHENS OVERSIGHT AND INTER-AGENCY SYNERGY IN ABIA STATE
Today marked a defining moment of institutional reconnection and renewed confidence as the Commissioner of the Federal Character Commission, *Hon. High Chief Victor Ikeji* _Ph.D_ undertook a strategic familiarization visit to the Abia State Office on Tuesday, 17th March 2026.
He was warmly received by the State Director, Mr. Okolorie Valentine, alongside other members of staff.
In his address, Dr. Ikeji emphasized that the Commission is not merely another federal agency, but a critical Federal Institution entrusted with ensuring equity and fairness in the distribution of employment, promotions, infrastructure and social amenities.
From the very onset, the atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm, warmth, and a deep sense of belonging. Staff members, visibly elated, turned out in full strength to receive the Commissioner, an expression not just of protocol, but of hope, expectation, and renewed faith in leadership.
The interactive visit provided more than a routine engagement; it became a platform for institutional introspection, professional bonding, and policy alignment. Staff members spoke candidly, shared operational realities, and reaffirmed their commitment to the core mandate of equity, fairness, and national cohesion.
The Commissioner reminded staff that every file handled within the office represents the hopes, aspirations, and opportunities for citizens, urging them to carry out their duties with diligence and a strong sense of responsibility.
Addressing concerns raised by staff, Dr. Ikeji assured them that the 5th Commission, under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Hulayat Omidiran, is committed to holistically addressing welfare challenges affecting the Commission and its workforce.
FROM OVERSIGHT TO ACTION: MONITORING POLICE RECRUITMENT
In a demonstration of the Commission’s constitutional responsibility, the visit transitioned from dialogue to action as the Commissioner and his team proceeded to monitor the ongoing police recruitment exercise at the Police Officers’ Mess.
This exercise underscored the Commission’s unwavering commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and federal character compliance in national recruitment processes. It was not merely an inspection, it was a statement that equity must not only be preached but visibly enforced.
Thereafter, the visit culminated in a strategic courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, at the Abia State Command.
The Federal Character Commissioner used the opportunity to praise the ongoing police recruitment exercise in the state, noting that he had earlier visited the recruitment centre for an on-the-spot assessment. He expressed satisfaction with the process, particularly in relation to compliance with the Federal Character principles
In a deeply reflective and forward-looking engagement, the Federal Commissioner also commended the Command for its professionalism and effectiveness, particularly highlighting the strong collaboration between the police and the administration of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, The Executive Governor of Abia State. .
He noted that this synergy has translated into a remarkable improvement in security architecture, fostering safety, stability, and public confidence across the state.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police acknowledged and applauded the Governor’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing security, describing it as a cornerstone for peace and development. He further extended his goodwill to the Federal Commissioner, expressing confidence in his capacity to deliver on his mandate.
Beyond the formalities, today’s engagements carried a deeper meaning.
They represented:
A rekindling of trust between leadership and workforce
A reaffirmation of the Commission’s oversight role in national equity
A strengthening of inter-agency collaboration for public good
