UCCDA DEMOLITION EXERCISE EXTENDS TO IKOT EKPENE ROAD
The Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) has intensified its demolition exercise, removing shanties and illegal structures encroaching on waterways and government right-of-way along Ikot Ekpene Road.
The intensive exercise by the Agency’s demolition team, led by the Chairman, Hon Anietie Eka, yesterday, cleared illegal structures and shanties along Ikot Ekpene Road, ensuring that the area is free from encroachment and unsafe buildings obstructing the natural waterways.
The exercise was carried out smoothly, with minimal disruption to traffic and daily activities in the area. Developers and property owners were advised against encroachment, as the Agency’s monitoring team will ensure that demolished structures are not rebuilt.
Recall that, Akwa Ibom State has been listed as one of the flood-prone states in this year’s predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET). This highlights the need for proactive measures to avert flooding disasters as predicted.
The demolition and clearance operation will in the coming days cover major routes, including Oron Road to Udom Emmanuel Boulevard, Abak Road, Ikot Oku Ikono Flyover, Nwaniba Road, Ring Road 3, and Itam Junction.
