OHUHU TRADITIONAL RULERS MOURN DR. EMEKA OKENGWU, CALL FOR UNITY AND PEACE IN OHUHU
The Ohuhu Traditional Rulers Council, under the leadership of His Royal Majesty, Eze Charles Chionye Ngwuli, has received with deep shock and profound sadness the untimely passing of Dr. Emeka Okengwu, the newly appointed Chairman of the Ohuhu Welfare Union Caretaker Committee.
His sudden demise came as a rude shock to the entire Ohuhu nation, especially as there had been no known report of illness or health challenge suggesting such an unfortunate end.
In his passing, Ohuhu has lost one of its brightest minds, a committed son, a bridge builder, and a man whose passion for the unity and progress of the Ohuhu people was never in doubt.
Before his death, Dr. Emeka Okengwu had courageously undertaken the responsibility of repositioning the Ohuhu Welfare Union and restoring confidence in its electoral processes. In furtherance of that noble task, he had already set the machinery in motion for the conduct of the Ohuhu Welfare Union elections scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.
It is therefore important to state clearly that prolonging or unnecessarily postponing the election beyond this point will neither honour his memory nor sustain the vision he worked tirelessly to achieve within the short period he served. The greatest tribute the Ohuhu people can pay him is to ensure that the democratic process he initiated is peacefully concluded as scheduled.
The Traditional Rulers Council is aware that certain interests may seek to exploit this painful moment to settle scores, spread disaffection, or cast aspersions on the traditional institution. We urge all Ohuhu sons and daughters to rise above divisive tendencies and refuse to allow grief to be weaponized for selfish agendas.
This is a time for unity, maturity, and collective responsibility. The stool of our forefathers remains committed to peace, stability, and the continued progress of Ohuhu land.
We therefore appeal to all stakeholders, delegates, candidates, and community leaders to support the successful conduct of the elections as already arranged, while also standing with the family of our departed son in prayers and solidarity.
The labour, sacrifices, and commitment of Dr. Emeka Okengwu toward rebuilding the Ohuhu Welfare Union shall never be in vain. His legacy will endure through the unity, peace, and progress of the Ohuhu people.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
