*TROOPS OF 14 BRIGADE RECORD MAJOR SECURITY BREAKTHROUGHS IN ABIA*
Troops of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating in close collaboration with the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies, have recorded significant operational successes in ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal and separatist-linked networks within Abia State and adjoining areas.
The coordinated operations were initiated following credible intelligence reports concerning the activities of suspected gun-runners and IPOB-linked criminal elements within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility. The sustained operations have so far led to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of illegal firearms as well as other incriminating materials.
In a proactive effort to strengthen ongoing security operations, Headquarters 14 Brigade requested technical intelligence support from Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army. Consequently, a DIA Tracking Team attached to 82 Military Intelligence Brigade was deployed on 28 April 2026 to support troops of 14 Brigade in the conduct of intelligence-driven operations across identified flashpoints in Abia State.
One of the early operational successes was recorded on 30 April 2026 when troops of 14 Brigade, in conjunction with DIA operatives, arrested a 37-year-old suspect, Mr Emmanuel James Amah, at Obinto Village in Ihiechiowa, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State. During the operation, security operatives recovered various denominations of Biafran currencies, including shillings and pound notes, believed to be linked to pro-Biafra activities. The suspect and recovered exhibits are currently undergoing further investigation.
In another operation conducted on 4 May 2026, troops of 14 Brigade, working alongside operatives of the DIA and DSS, apprehended one Mr Ukonke Dickson Jacob at Ohambele in Ukwa East Local Government Area. Preliminary intelligence revealed that the suspect was allegedly involved in the movement and supply of illegal arms across parts of the South-South and South-East regions.
The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains resolute and committed to sustaining ongoing operations aimed at ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens. Members of the public are encouraged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance ongoing efforts at combating criminality and safeguarding national security.
