Hon. Obi Aguocha Calls for Stronger Community Security, Donates ₦2 Million to Support Umuawa-Alaocha Security Initiative
The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has called for stronger community-driven security efforts, stressing that the safety of lives and property requires the collective commitment of both government and local communities.
Hon. Aguocha made the call while speaking at the launch of the ₦50 million Umuawa-Alaocha Community Security Support Fund held in Umuawa-Alaocha, Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Describing the initiative as timely and necessary, the federal lawmaker commended the leadership of the community for taking proactive steps to strengthen its local security architecture in response to emerging security challenges.
He recalled that during his tenure as President-General of the Ohuhu Welfare Union, he established a community security structure to tackle insecurity across Ohuhu, noting that community-based security remains an effective complement to conventional policing.
Hon. Aguocha also urged the Divisional Police Officer of the Ohuhu Police Division to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the division’s operational needs. He pledged to mobilize political leaders across Ohuhu to ensure that the identified logistical and operational requirements are provided to enhance policing and improve security within the area.
In support of the initiative, Hon. Aguocha announced a donation of ₦2 million to the Umuawa-Alaocha Community Security Support Fund, encouraging indigenes, residents, and stakeholders to continue contributing towards the success of the project.
His donation and remarks were applauded by members of the community, who described them as a significant contribution to the ongoing efforts to build a safer and more secure Umuawa-Alaocha.
