*LABOUR PARTY STRENGTHENS GRASSROOTS PRESENCE IN ACHA, CONSOLIDATES HOLD IN ISUIKWUATO*
The Labour Party in Abia State has recorded a major political boost in its ongoing drive to deepen its presence across all communities, as a large number of stakeholders and supporters formally defected to the Party in Acha, Isuikwuato Local Government Area.
The high-profile reception, led by Governor Alex Otti represented by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, alongside the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, and other key party leaders, marked a significant milestone in the Party’s consolidation efforts in Abia North.
Addressing the gathering at the country home of Chief Chris Ajah in Acha, the Deputy Governor assured the new members that the Labour Party remains a platform built on integrity, development, and the delivery of tangible dividends of democracy. He emphasized that the Party is not driven by empty promises but by measurable progress and people-oriented governance. He welcomed the defectors as full stakeholders, urging them to actively participate in strengthening the Party at all levels.
Engr. Emetu further noted that Acha’s mass alignment with the Labour Party symbolizes unity, political consciousness, and a shared vision for progress. He cautioned party faithful against complacency, stressing that the growing popularity of the Party in Isuikwuato must be matched with increased commitment to grassroots mobilization and sustained engagement.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, assured the new entrants of inclusiveness, equity, and unity within the Party. He reiterated that there is no room for division, adding that every member will be given a sense of belonging as the Party continues to expand its structures. He described the new members as leaders in their respective polling units and welcomed them into the Labour Party family.
Also speaking, the Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, reaffirmed that Isuikwuato remains firmly a Labour Party stronghold. He assured the leadership that the people of the area are fully committed to delivering overwhelming support for Governor Alex Otti and all Labour Party candidates in future elections.
As part of the ceremony, the Deputy Governor officially handed over the Labour Party flag to Chief Chris Ajah and Hon. Obinna Ekekwe, symbolizing their formal entry into the Party. He recalled that Abia North delivered a 5/5 victory for the Party in 2023 and expressed confidence that the zone would surpass that performance in 2027 with an even wider margin.
Speaking on behalf of party leadership in the area, Chief Kenneth Ahia, SAN, affirmed his unwavering loyalty to Governor Alex Otti, describing him as a transformational leader whose performance continues to attract widespread support. He declared that Acha has fully embraced the Labour Party and that the alignment is irreversible.
In their separate remarks on behalf of the new members, Chief Chris Ajah and Hon. Obinna Ekekwe expressed gratitude to the Governor and the Party leadership for the warm reception. They assured that they would contribute significantly to strengthening the Party and ensuring its victory in future elections. Hon. Ekekwe noted that his decision to join the Labour Party was inspired by the visible developmental strides of Governor Alex Otti.
Chief Ajah further disclosed to Acha people that the State Government has approved and released funds for critical infrastructure in Acha, including the reconstruction of the road linking Amibo to Acha and the restoration of electricity to the community through reconnection to the national grid.
